Truist Financial Corporation has announced it is the first bank to initiate alias-based Request for Payment (RfP) transactions through The Clearing House’s Real-Time Payments (RTP) network, a major advancement set to simplify and modernize how bills are paid across the U.S.
By introducing alias-based RfP, Truist enables businesses to send payment requests using easy identifiers—such as an email address or phone number—rather than sensitive banking details. This approach significantly enhances security while offering consumers a more intuitive, faster, and safer way to pay bills directly from their bank accounts.
“Truist’s purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of this innovation, helping set the standard for the next generation of bill pay,” said John Frazzini, Head of Digital Payments at Truist. “We’re committed to making financial experiences better, safer, and more personalized for everyone.”

The initiative aligns with growing demand for real-time payment solutions that prioritize convenience and cybersecurity. As consumers increasingly seek faster and more flexible digital payment options, Truist’s pioneering move is expected to drive broader adoption of RfP across industries such as utilities, insurance, healthcare, and telecom.
This development builds on Truist’s ongoing investments in digital transformation, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing customer experiences and leading the evolution of payments in the real-time economy.
