Arm Emerges as the Backbone of System-Scale AI in the Agentic Data Center Era

Arm is emerging as a central technology provider in the next phase of AI data center evolution, as the industry moves toward tightly integrated, system-level architectures designed to scale increasingly complex workloads. While accelerators continue to drive AI computation, CPUs are taking on a more critical role in orchestrating, securing, and scaling large AI systems—a shift that is placing Arm-based CPUs at the core of modern AI infrastructure.

This was spotlighted at CES 2026 with the launch of Vera Rubin from NVIDIA, a co-designed AI-platform that is built to work like a single supercomputer. It encompasses a number of components such as CPUs, GPUs, networking, and data processing units, and the foundation for its CPU is laid by Arm technology. This is a sign that characterizes a new trend in the industry to make AI platforms that specifically highlight coordination between hardware and software components, and do not necessarily depend upon accelerators.

With the increasing deployment of AI from single racks to multi-rack systems and super-clusters, system architects are increasingly focused on providing high bandwidth and low latency communication and coordination between system components. In such systems, the CPU has the task of handling data movement, synchronization, reliability, and isolation. Current industry giants, cloud providers, and hyperscalers are moving to use Arm-based CPUs along with the use of acceleration processors.

Within the Vera Rubin platform, NVIDIA has introduced new Arm-based system-on-chips designed specifically for large-scale AI. The Vera CPU is optimized for orchestration and agentic AI workloads, delivering significant performance, memory, and interconnect bandwidth improvements over prior generations. NVIDIA’s BlueField-4 DPU uses Arm technology. This boosts core counts and enhances the DPU’s role in AI infrastructure.

These changes mirror strategies from major cloud providers like AWS. They combine Trainium accelerators with Arm-based Graviton CPUs in integrated systems. Vendors are uniting on a model that mixes specialized accelerators with efficient CPUs and deep system integration.

With Arm Neoverse-based CPUs now in use by companies like AWS, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, Arm is becoming a key player in scalable AI data centers.
