Alation has introduced a new solution designed to help enterprises govern their most important data with greater precision and scalability. Announced at revAlation London, the Alation CDE Manager uses AI to automate the management of Critical Data Elements (CDEs). This helps business, risk, and data teams work together. They can ensure essential data is trusted, compliant, and aligned with business goals.
As regulatory demands grow and AI brings new risks and opportunities, many organizations find it hard to identify important data and manage it well. While CDEs offer a useful framework, managing them has often been costly and complex. It’s usually fragmented across different teams and systems. Alation seeks to remove these challenges. It uses smart governance agents to convert policy goals into measurable data standards. This automates ongoing compliance.
“The goal of the data governance program is to build trust in our data so it can be confidently used to deliver real business value,” said Alistair Griffin, Global Data Governance Lead at Brambles. “I can see huge potential for CDE Manager as a powerful, intuitive tool that helps us govern the data that drives our business, bringing key indicators for our most important data into one place and allowing us to manage the process in a realistically achievable way. I am genuinely excited for this module!”

Early users highlight significant efficiency gains. “One of the standout capabilities of Alation CDE Manager is how effortlessly it extracts and formats the information we need,” noted Reece Offer, Data Governance Analyst at HBF Health Limited. “It’s streamlined our workflows and saved a huge amount of time.”
Key capabilities of CDE Manager include policy-as-code automation, semantic mapping across the data ecosystem, continuous compliance monitoring, a unified audit-ready view of each CDE, and seamless integration with Alation’s broader governance agent network.
“Enterprises don’t fail at governance because of intent — they fail because they can’t translate intent into scalable, effective data management the whole organization understands,” said GT Volpe, Sr. Director of Product Management at Alation.
Currently in private beta, Alation CDE Manager will be generally available later this year, with organizations invited to join the beta program.
