AMD and OpenAI have announced a multi-year, multi-generation partnership to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure, with the initial 1 gigawatt deployment of MI450 series GPUs scheduled for the second half of 2026. “We are thrilled to partner with OpenAI to deliver AI compute at massive scale,” said Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD. “This partnership brings the best of AMD and OpenAI together to create a true win-win enabling the world’s most ambitious AI buildout and advancing the entire AI ecosystem.” OpenAI will leverage AMD’s high-performance computing expertise to scale AI infrastructure across multiple GPU generations, optimizing hardware and software integration to accelerate large-scale deployments.

“This partnership is a major step in building the compute capacity needed to realize AI’s full potential,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. The agreement includes a warrant for up to 160 million AMD shares, vesting based on deployment milestones and performance targets. “Building the future of AI requires deep collaboration across every layer of the stack,” added Greg Brockman, OpenAI president. The collaboration is expected to generate tens of billions in revenue for AMD while advancing OpenAI’s AI infrastructure and accelerating innovation in the high-performance computing and AI ecosystem.
