Cisco Advances Security for Next-Gen Mobile Infrastructure

Cisco

Cisco is emphasizing the urgent need to build secure, always-on infrastructure for global mobile networks as operators accelerate 5G deployments and prepare for future innovations such as 6G, warning that legacy equipment and insecure protocols expose critical vulnerabilities worldwide. As outlined in a recent blog, outdated appliances with unpatched firmware and weak administrative interfaces are being exploited by bad actors, revealing that “the security of our networks is only as strong as their weakest components,” and highlighting that resilient infrastructure must be the foundation of mobile connectivity rather than a future roadmap item.

In order to enhance its strength, Cisco has expressed its commitment to strengthening the default security features, eliminating insecure features, and enhancing features that increase the level of understanding of the activities of threat actors. According to Cisco, resilient mobile networks have the ability to withstand, adapt, and recover quickly from the threat. This ensures the hardening, updating, and monitoring of all elements, including the data center and the edge sites, towards the goal of always-on performance. Cisco’s security vision is not limited to the development of resilient mobile networks, as the company has also pledged its commitment towards the incorporation of zero trust architectures and observability into the network fabrics.
