Collibra acquires Deasy Labs to extend unified governance platform to unstructured data

Collibra

Collibra, the leader in unified governance for data and AI, announced the acquisition of Deasy Labs, a pioneering startup specializing in automated discovery and enrichment of unstructured data. With this acquisition, Collibra becomes the first and only platform to deliver unified governance across both structured and unstructured data, providing a trusted foundation for AI, analytics and regulatory initiatives.

The acquisition of Deasy Labs enhances Collibra’s capabilities to tag, filter and enrich unstructured files such as contracts, transcripts, reports, and emails for downstream use in AI and analytics. Collibra customers will be able to classify, filter and enrich unstructured files with minimal human input, using auto-discovered taxonomies to drive smarter AI search, more accurate GenAI responses and better compliance across their enterprise data estate.

“As organizations scale their use of AI, the ability to unlock the value of unstructured data becomes critical,” said Felix Van de Maele, Collibra Founder and CEO. “Deasy Labs gives us the ability to tag, filter and enrich this dark data at scale—automatically turning unstructured files into structured, meaningful and trusted data assets ready for AI. This is a leap forward for the industry, and for Collibra’s vision of unified data and AI governance.”

Unlocking the value of unstructured data

Unstructured data, documents such as PDFs, emails and transcripts, make up over 90% of enterprise data, but are mostly left unmanaged and unused. Deasy Labs’ technology connects to these data sources, automatically discovers meaningful taxonomies, enriches files with structured metadata, and seamlessly integrates this context into downstream applications, such as GenAI assistants, semantic search and AI-driven workflows.

Founded in 2023 by a team of AI and metadata veterans from McKinsey & Company, and part of the Y Combinator Program in 2023, Deasy Labs has built a developer-friendly platform trusted in the financial services and healthcare sector. Its automated enrichment layer removes the need for expensive AI pipelines or manual labeling, accelerating time to insight and reducing operational cost.

“Our mission at Deasy Labs has always been to help organizations make sense of the massive volume of unstructured content they generate every day,” said Reece Griffiths, co-founder of Deasy Labs. “By joining Collibra, we can now bring that mission to life at scale—integrating deep semantic enrichment into a platform that’s already trusted by the world’s leading data teams.”

Integration into the Collibra Platform

Deasy Labs capabilities will be integrated into the Collibra Platform over the coming months.

This integration will allow customers to leverage:

  • Smart Discovery: Rapidly scan file repositories and identify relevant content using semantic tagging, enabling faster AI and AI use case delivery.
  • Automated Semantic Layer: Replace manual tagging and taxonomy work with automated enrichment workflows that structure unstructured data and create business-relevant metadata.
  • High-Accuracy Enterprise AI Search: Sustain performance of enterprise knowledge management and AI tools at much larger data volumes by enriching unstructured content with contextual metadata.

This unified approach will enable Collibra customers to govern the entire lifecycle of AI use cases—from data discovery and enrichment to policy enforcement and lineage tracking—across both structured and unstructured sources.

“Unifying governance across all structured and unstructured data into trusted, governed data assets is no longer optional,” said Sanjeev Mohan, Principal at SanjMo and former Gartner Analyst. “Metadata-driven automation is key to unlocking the hidden value in documents, emails, and transcripts as it brings much-needed visibility and control to the least governed parts of the data estate. By bringing unstructured data into the fold of unified governance, Collibra is taking a critical step toward operationalizing AI at scale with confidence.”
