Cybersecurity firm Fortra has acquired Lookout’s Cloud Security division, a strategic move that significantly bolsters its capabilities in cloud and data protection. The deal adds Lookout’s Security Service Edge (SSE) offerings — including Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), and Secure Web Gateway (SWG) — to Fortra’s expanding platform, giving customers a more complete Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) solution.
Based in Boston, Lookout’s Cloud Security business brings to Fortra a robust set of tools designed to defend against modern cloud threats, enabling enterprises to better secure sensitive data across increasingly complex IT environments. The acquisition follows a 2024 partnership between the two companies, which integrated Lookout’s cloud solutions with Fortra’s Digital Guardian data loss prevention (DLP) platform.
“We know most organizations need some level of cloud security support, and we also know most organizations have been burned by overly complex DLP deployments and a failure to detect real threats through the noise,” said Matt Reck, Chief Executive Officer at Fortra. “By bringing Lookout’s cloud security technology into our cybersecurity platform, we’ll be able to offer one of the industry’s most complete cloud security solutions to identify and stop threats from endpoint to the cloud.”

The acquisition enhances Fortra’s ability to deliver end-to-end data protection — from discovery and classification to prevention and policy enforcement — with deeper visibility and control over cloud environments.
Lookout CEO Jim Dolce emphasized the alignment between the two companies, noting the acquisition builds on an already successful collaboration. “We’re confident that Fortra is well-positioned to lead Lookout’s Cloud Security business into its next chapter and continue delivering exceptional value to its customers,” he said.
Industry analysts view the acquisition as a timely and strategic expansion. “This is a strong move for Fortra,” said Christopher Kissel, Research Vice President at IDC. “By adding CASB and DSPM capabilities to their portfolio, Fortra is building an impressive set of capabilities in must-have security solutions.”
With the cloud continuing to be a prime target for cyber threats and compliance demands rising globally, Fortra’s latest acquisition positions it as a more formidable player in the enterprise security market.
