Google has rolled out a new wave of AI-powered enhancements to Firebase Studio, its all-in-one cloud-based development environment, aimed at simplifying and accelerating the creation of full-stack, AI-driven applications. Announced during the I/O Connect India event, the updates are tailored to help developers more easily move from concept to production using popular frameworks and Gemini, Google’s generative AI model.
These improvements include AI-optimized templates for widely used frameworks like Flutter, Angular, React, and Next.js; seamless integration with Firebase backend services via Gemini prompts; and the ability to fork workspaces for safer experimentation and improved collaboration.
“We’re unveiling new updates that help you combine the power of Gemini with these new features to go from idea to app using some of your favorite frameworks and languages,” said Jeanine Banks, Vice President & General Manager of Developer X at Google.
A key highlight is the introduction of AI-optimized templates, designed to speed up development workflows. These templates come preconfigured with autonomous “Agent mode” and include an airules.md
file that provides Gemini with coding standards, error handling guidelines, and documentation best practices for the specific framework in use. Developers can also switch between “Ask” and “Agent” modes depending on their workflow needs—from generating entire applications to fine-tuning features and testing.

With the new update, Gemini also makes integrating Firebase backend services simpler. Developers can now describe what functionality they want, and Gemini will suggest and implement the necessary Firebase services, reducing setup time and minimizing manual effort.
To support innovation and risk-free experimentation, Google has introduced workspace forking. This feature lets developers clone entire workspaces—including Gemini chat history—so they can test new ideas or debug without altering their main codebase. Forked workspaces can also be shared for real-time collaboration or used as backups to restore prior versions.
Further additions include an “enhance prompts” feature that lets users refine their ideas and app concepts with Gemini, as well as a significant increase in project upload size to 100MB, enabling support for more complex applications.
The enhancements reflect Google’s broader commitment to democratizing AI-assisted development. In India, home to one of the world’s largest developer communities, local creators are already using Firebase Studio to build impactful apps. For example, Android Developer Expert Pankaj Rai created Mentor Sarthi, a student mentorship platform, and expanded his GlamMEAi personal stylist app to the web—all using Firebase Studio, without needing prior web development experience.
These updates continue to strengthen Firebase Studio as a leading platform for developers at any skill level to harness the power of AI and deliver production-ready apps with speed and confidence.
