Google is working on a new AI technology, named “Project Jarvis,” which is designed to autonomously operate a web browser to perform tasks like online research and shopping. Expected to debut in December, this feature will leverage Google’s upcoming Gemini large language model. Similarly, Microsoft-backed OpenAI is developing an AI-powered “computer-using agent” (CUA) for autonomous web browsing. Meanwhile, Google and AI startup Anthropic are exploring more advanced versions that would allow the software to interact directly with a user’s computer or browser, aiming to broaden the AI’s usability for personal and professional tasks.
