The Flex Series, a new lineup of graphics processing units designed for use in servers, has been added to Intel Corp.’s data center chip portfolio. At launch, the Flex Series has two GPUs. While the second GPU has twice as many cores and 16 gigabytes of memory, the first GPU has 16 graphics processing cores and 12 gigabytes of onboard memory.
The Xe HPG graphics card architecture from Intel, which is primarily designed for running video games, is the foundation for both chips. The two chips, according to Intel, support a range of workloads. A single Flex Series chip, according to Intel, can simultaneously transcode up to 36 video streams with a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution.
Businesses that need more performance can use multiple GPUs working together. According to Intel, 10 Flex Series graphics cards can be combined into a single server to simultaneously process 360 video streams.
