IonQ unveils first quantum computer in Europe, now online with record-breaking #AQ36

IonQ

IonQ, a leader in the quantum computing and networking industry, announced the deployment of IonQ Forte Enterprise at its first European Innovation Center at the uptownBasel campus in Arlesheim, Switzerland, a milestone the company has achieved together with QuantumBasel. It is the first IonQ-deployed quantum computer for data center deployment operating outside the United States and the first quantum system for commercial deployment in Switzerland.

Forte Enterprise is now online and processing computational tasks with a record number of #AQ36 algorithmic qubits – significantly more powerful than the promised #AQ35. With each additional #AQ, the usable computing space for executing quantum algorithms doubles. A system with #AQ36 can simultaneously consider more than 68 billion different possibilities. With this milestone, IonQ is once again at the forefront of the industry in delivering production-ready systems to its customers.

“The successful deployment of Forte Enterprise in Europe – on schedule and with even higher performance than announced – demonstrates IonQ’s commitment to the global deployment of quantum systems through technological leadership and operational excellence,” said Peter Chapman, CEO and President of IonQ. “Achieving #AQ36 represents a significant leap forward that opens up new opportunities for applications including logistics, finance, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and artificial intelligence.”

“Deploying the modern quantum computing platform Forte Enterprise in our ecosystem will accelerate the development of quantum applications in various fields,” said Damir Bogdan, CEO of QuantumBasel. “By collaborating with IonQ, we are positioning the uptownBasel campus at the forefront of quantum innovation and fostering groundbreaking innovations that can solve real-world challenges.”

IonQ’s next-generation commercial quantum systems, such as Forte Enterprise, are optimized for data center environments, featuring a rack-mount form factor, low power profile, and minimal isolation requirements.

continuation of the success story

Today’s deployment of IonQ’s Forte Enterprise system is the culmination of IonQ’s technical innovation, operational excellence and enterprise-class production capabilities.

“This milestone reflects the hard work and ingenuity of the teams at IonQ and QuantumBasel,” said Dr. Dave Mehuys, VP Production Engineering. “We aligned our system build with the on-site data center design, and IonQ’s manufacturing and production teams leveraged their decades of expertise to bring this groundbreaking system online faster than expected.”

Signposts for a new era of computing

IonQ’s record-breaking achievement of #AQ36 demonstrates the company’s commitment and success in advancing quantum performance. Forte Enterprise is expanding opportunities in advancing groundbreaking research in areas such as quantum chemistry and machine learning.

“IonQ’s ability to deploy Forte Enterprise with #AQ36 demonstrates our growing capabilities to execute on our mission to drive significant quantum advances around the world,” said Dr. Dean Kassmann, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology at IonQ. “Every step we take demonstrates our commitment to bringing quantum computing out of the lab and into practical, impactful, commercial use cases.”

A quantum leap for Europe and the world

IonQ’s first European Innovation Center will enable the company to serve its European customers from its QuantumBasel site and promote research and development of next-generation quantum applications in Europe.

As part of its partnership with IonQ, QuantumBasel offers its ecosystem – including companies, research institutes, startups and universities – direct access to the #AQ36 Forte Enterprise system.

IonQ now owns data centers in the Washington, DC, Seattle and Basel, Switzerland regions, giving it a firmly established global data center footprint that strengthens its position as a leading quantum technology company.
