Marvell Announce Partnership with Microsoft Azure Security Services

Marvell Technology

Marvell Technology, a leading provider of data infrastructure semiconductor solutions, announced that Microsoft has expanded the use of its cloud-based security offerings powered by Marvell® LiquidSecurity® hardware security modules (HSMs) to serve customers across Europe. This regional expansion builds on Microsoft’s existing LiquidSecurity-enabled services already deployed in Asia and North America and follows two major European certifications awarded to Marvell earlier this year.

By integrating LiquidSecurity, Microsoft Azure can now deliver secure, cloud-based services for activities such as certifying cross-border contracts, validating identity documents and supporting high-volume digital transactions. These capabilities help organizations streamline operations, cut costs and drive efficiency across a variety of regulated and security-sensitive use cases.

“We congratulate Marvell on achieving eIDAS and CC EAL4+ certification of its LiquidSecurity HSMs, which power our Azure Key Vault, Azure Key Vault Managed HSM and Cloud HSM services,” said Soumya Subramanian, vice president of Cloud Security Engineering at Microsoft Azure. “Through our collaboration with Marvell, we are able to offer Azure’s customers working in the electronic identity and passport space the most secure and compliant key management services available in public, sovereign or government clouds today.”

“Marvell has been the pioneer in cloud-based HSMs and remains the industry leader,” said Michela Menting, senior research director at ABI Research. “Common Criteria EAL4+ and eIDAS certifications represent the latest steps by Marvell in forging a more diverse and larger market for HSM services.”

“It’s been a tremendous experience to work with Microsoft, which shares our vision of improving security through custom silicon and cloud technologies,” said Will Chu, executive vice president and general manager of Custom Cloud Solutions at Marvell. “We look forward to further exploring how cloud-based security can transform our daily activities.”

Marvell secured its recent LiquidSecurity certifications under eIDAS (electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services) and Common Criteria EAL4+, two of the most rigorous global frameworks governing digital trust and cybersecurity. eIDAS—established by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union—sets the standards for replacing traditional paper-based agreements and authentication workflows with secure digital mechanisms across member states. Meanwhile, Common Criteria EAL4+ harmonizes major international security evaluation standards, offering a unified benchmark for product assurance.

Delivering Stronger Security With a Smaller Footprint

Hardware security modules play an essential role in global digital infrastructure by performing authentication, encryption and secure key management for data in transit and at rest, PKI services, login processes and large-scale transactional systems. Historically, HSMs have been deployed as bulky server appliances running traditional processors and installed directly on customer premises.

Marvell LiquidSecurity HSMs take a fundamentally different approach. Built as PCIe-based devices and powered by Marvell OCTEON® DPUs, they are purpose-designed for high-density, multi-tenant cloud environments. A single LiquidSecurity 2 HSM adapter can maintain up to one million encryption keys and execute over one million cryptographic operations per second. This delivers massive scalability while consuming significantly less power, physical space and hardware than legacy HSM appliances.
