Marvell Strengthens AI Data Center Connectivity with Acquisition of XConn Technologies

Marvell Technology

Marvell Technology has agreed to acquire XConn Technologies. XConn specializes in advanced PCIe and CXL switching silicon. This deal will boost Marvell’s role in high-performance data center connectivity. The acquisition strengthens Marvell’s switching portfolio and adds experienced engineers to its Ultra Accelerator Link (UALink) team. This move supports its plan for next-gen AI infrastructure.

As AI workloads grow, data center designs are shifting. They are moving from single-rack setups to multi-rack systems. These systems need ultra-high bandwidth and very low latency. They rely on scale-up fabrics to connect many accelerators and allow flexible resource sharing. UALink is an open industry standard made to meet these needs. It builds on PCIe innovations while improving performance, reach, and efficiency for accelerated computing.

By integrating XConn’s PCIe and CXL switching products, Marvell broadens its ability to address emerging requirements across AI and cloud platforms. The combined teams are expected to accelerate innovation in UALink switching while better supporting hyperscalers and enterprise customers designing next-generation AI systems.

“This combination creates a compelling switching platform for accelerated infrastructure, advancing Marvell’s connectivity strategy for next-generation AI and cloud data centers,” said Matt Murphy, chairman and CEO of Marvell. “With XConn, we add proven PCIe and CXL switch products, IP, and engineering talent to expand our UALink scale-up switch team. Combined with our pending acquisition of Celestial AI, we will be well positioned to deliver customers the performance, flexibility, and architectural choice they need as AI systems grow in size and complexity.”

“At XConn we have built the industry’s highest-port-count advanced PCIe 5 and PCIe 6 switching portfolio to support the next generation of accelerated infrastructure,” said Gerry Fan, CEO of XConn. “Marvell brings cutting-edge SerDes technology, a leading process roadmap, deep hyperscale customer relationships, and global scale. We share a common vision for high-speed connectivity as the foundation of modern data centers, and we look forward to working together to help customers drive new waves of AI innovation.”

The acquisition also expands Marvell’s total addressable market by strengthening its position in PCIe and CXL switching, both of which are becoming central to modern AI architectures. XConn’s products are already deployed or sampling with more than 20 customers, and Marvell expects the portfolio to begin contributing revenue in the second half of fiscal 2027, scaling to approximately $100 million in fiscal 2028.
