Microsoft is strengthening the security of its Edge browser, which it claims will offer an additional layer of security when using the internet and visiting “unfamiliar” websites.
On unfamiliar sites, Microsoft Edge automatically switches to enhanced security mode and uses “more conservative” security settings. Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript compilation is disabled in the Enhanced Security Mode, which also enables additional operating system security measures for the browser.
According to Microsoft, the defenses include Hardware-enforced Stack Protection and Arbitrary Code Guard (ACG), which when used together make it more challenging for a malicious website to attack an end user. The updated settings are accessible in Microsoft Edge 104 or later.
