NextGen Healthcare Unveils NextGen Ambient Assist, an AI Solution Designed to Boost Provider Efficiency

NextGen Healthcare

NextGen Healthcare, Inc., a leading provider of innovative, cloud-based healthcare technology solutions, announced the availability of NextGen™ Ambient Assist, an ambient listening solution that interprets patient-provider conversations in real time to summarize appointments and document care plans at unprecedented speeds. Ambient Assist delivers AI-generated subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) notes directly into the electronic health record (EHR) for provider convenience.

SOAP notes have long been used in many specialties to help providers organize their observations and establish a clear outline for patient care. Using Ambient Assist within the NextGen® Mobile application, providers can save as much as two hours of documentation per day, allowing them more time for patient interactions. Within 30 seconds of a completed patient encounter, a SOAP note appears for provider review. The AI-driven technology filters for relevant details to create concise documentation of each patient appointment with over 90% accuracy.

“Far beyond a transcription service, Ambient Assist is an intelligent ally that helps providers reclaim their time and serve patients more effectively,” said David Sides, president and CEO of NextGen Healthcare. “This innovation is in response to the well-documented epidemic of physician burnout.”

Research suggests that approximately 63% of physicians report experiencing emotional exhaustion or another common sign of burnout at least once in any given week. Physician burnout can adversely affect patient care by leading to errors and reduced quality of care.

Importantly, Ambient Assist does not circumvent the provider by inferring medical conditions or making medical judgments. Once the provider reviews the note and makes any necessary edits, it is delivered seamlessly into the NextGen Enterprise EHR for inclusion in the patient’s medical records. Features of Ambient Assist include:

  • Intelligence: familiarity with natural, conversational speaking and immediate recognition of medical acronyms
  • 100% technology-based: zero reliance on scribes or additional personnel
  • Complete automation: no copying and pasting into the EHR for the provider
  • Auto-deletion: to preserve patient privacy, audio and transcripts are never stored or saved

Live demonstrations of Ambient Assist will be available October 8 – 11 at the HLTH 2023 conference (booth 4823) in Las Vegas, Nevada, and November 29 – December 2, at the NextGen Healthcare User Group Meeting (UGM) in Orlando, Florida.
