OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank have announced five new U.S. AI data center sites under the Stargate initiative, pushing the platform to nearly 7 gigawatts of planned capacity and over $400 billion in investment, moving ahead of the $500 billion, 10-gigawatt commitment set for the end of 2025. The sites, including locations in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; Lordstown, Ohio; Milam County, Texas; and a forthcoming Midwest site, are expected to generate over 25,000 onsite jobs and tens of thousands more nationwide. These new centers, developed through Oracle and SoftBank partnerships, are designed to deliver high-performance compute for AI training and inference while improving scalability, cost efficiency, and accessibility.

“AI can only fulfill its promise if we build the compute to power it. That compute is the key to ensuring everyone can benefit from AI and to unlocking future breakthroughs. We’re already making historic progress toward that goal through Stargate,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk highlighted OCI’s rapid expansion to meet AI demand, while SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son emphasized scalable infrastructure for AI’s future. The sites build on OpenAI’s flagship Abilene campus and represent a nationwide effort to advance AI research, create jobs, and establish the U.S. as a leader in AI infrastructure.
