Proofpoint, Inc. has acquired Hornetsecurity Group. Hornetsecurity is a top provider of AI-powered security for Microsoft 365. They offer data protection, compliance, and awareness solutions for managed service providers (MSPs) and small to midsize businesses (SMBs). This acquisition boosts Proofpoint’s human- and agent-centric security platform. It also expands its presence in the SMB and MSP markets. Hornetsecurity brings over 12,000 MSP partners and 125,000 customers. “We’re thrilled to officially welcome Hornetsecurity to Proofpoint and further our mission to protect the emerging agentic workspace for customers of every size,” said Sumit Dhawan, CEO of Proofpoint.

Hornetsecurity’s flagship 365 Total Protection platform delivers comprehensive cloud security for M365 environments, including email security, backup, compliance, awareness training, and multi-tenant management for MSPs. Daniel Hofmann, founder and CEO of Hornetsecurity, will lead the business unit as executive vice president and general manager within Proofpoint. “Together, we’re uniquely positioned to deliver the most effective M365 security and data protection to MSPs around the world,” Hofmann added. The $1.8 billion acquisition, with Hornetsecurity generating nearly $200 million in annual recurring revenue growing at 20% year-over-year, reinforces Proofpoint’s commitment to global expansion and delivering AI-driven security innovation to organizations of all sizes.
