Siemens in Discussion to Purchase Software Group Altair

Siemens

Siemens AG is in advanced discussions to acquire Altair Engineering Inc., a Michigan-based software firm, in what could be Siemens’s largest acquisition to date. Altair is valued at roughly $8.9 billion. The deal aligns with Siemens’s strategic shift under CEO Roland Busch to focus on software-driven, high-margin sectors rather than traditional heavy equipment. Siemens aims to enhance its Digital Industries unit, which specializes in factory automation, by adding Altair’s engineering software, widely used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and energy. Despite potential strategic benefits, RBC Capital Markets analysts noted the high valuation might slightly dilute Siemens’s earnings. If successful, the acquisition would surpass Siemens’s 2015 purchase of Dresser-Rand, its largest to date.
