SAP Introduces EU AI Cloud to Advance Europe’s Vision for Sovereign AI and Cloud Innovation

SAP

SAP SE has unveiled EU AI Cloud, a major step forward in its long-term strategy to support European digital sovereignty with a unified, full-stack cloud and AI architecture. Announced from Walldorf, the new framework merges SAP’s current sovereignty initiatives into one strategy. This lets organizations in the region select their control level, compliance, and deployment model based on their regulatory and operational needs.

The EU AI Cloud aims to meet strict EU data residency and sovereignty standards. It lets customers run important workloads in SAP’s European data centers. They can use trusted regional infrastructure or fully managed on-premises solutions. This launch shows SAP’s commitment to secure and compliant innovation. It also ensures access to advanced technologies.

A central component of the new offering is SAP’s expanded partnership with Cohere. Together, the companies will deliver agentic and multimodal AI capabilities through Cohere North, integrated directly into SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This will allow enterprises—especially those operating under stringent data-sovereignty requirements—to embed production-ready AI into their core processes. By combining Cohere’s advanced models with SAP’s deep industry expertise, the collaboration aims to deliver richer insights, more reliable decision intelligence, and sophisticated workflow automation “without compromising on sovereignty, compliance or performance.”

EU AI Cloud is strengthened by an extensive partner ecosystem including Cohere, Mistral AI, OpenAI, and others. Their models and applications can be deployed as SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS across SAP’s infrastructure or approved European partners, ensuring organizations benefit from cutting-edge innovation within a compliant, sovereign environment.

To address the diverse security needs of European enterprises and public institutions, EU AI Cloud offers multiple deployment options through SAP Sovereign Cloud. These include SAP’s European IaaS platform built on open-source technologies, fully SAP-operated environments hosted in customer-selected data centers, and commercial SaaS deployments on select global hyperscalers with added sovereignty safeguards. Additionally, Delos Cloud—Germany’s sovereign cloud platform for the public sector—extends specialized support for government-grade compliance.

With EU AI Cloud, SAP positions itself at the forefront of Europe’s sovereign technology movement, offering a scalable, secure, and future-ready foundation for organizations accelerating their AI and cloud transformation journeys.
