IBM Advances Enterprise AI Software to Multi-Agent Workflows and AI Development

IBM has announced a major upgrade to IBM Bob, its enterprise-grade agentic software development platform. Moving beyond traditional “AI completion assistants” or standalone coding chatbots, the platform introduces sophisticated multi-agent orchestration, built-in financial and utilization analytics via a native console named Bobalytics, and specialized Premium Packages tailored for the complex modernization of legacy corporate environments.

With enterprises leveraging AI generators for creating large amounts of raw source code, structural impediments have quickly begun cropping up throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). According to recent industry telemetry, 85% of DevSecOps experts believe that AI is causing the engineering backlog to shift from writing code to validating it. IBM Bob solves this problem by integrating agentic automation within the entire engineering lifecycle process, ranging from discovering the initial system through architectural planning, coding, parallel testing and verification, and automatic security remediation.

Instead of forcing engineers to adhere to just one IDE plugin, the unified solution is based on an interconnected architecture using a common execution harness. To solve this, IBM has codified decades of enterprise engineering heritage into pre-built, domain-specific Premium Packages:

IBM Bob Premium Package for Z: Brings AI-native application modernization directly to mainframe systems, introducing automated COBOL and PL/I code parsing alongside structured Job Control Language (JCL) dependency analysis.

IBM Bob Premium Package for i: Tailored for IBM i operating systems and QSYS file structures. It features a Native Connection mechanism that allows Bob to read source members directly, bypassing the traditional export-edit-import loop to accelerate RPG, COBOL, and CL development workflows.

IBM Bob Premium Package for Java: Guides engineering teams through large-scale refactoring and framework upgrades, including automated dependencies analysis and continuous migrations up to Java 25.
