Arista Networks, a manufacturer of cloud and AI networking fabrics, has introduced an ETM solution for VeloCloud SD-WAN that uses an AI algorithm. This innovative tool is expected to bring a Zero Trust security feature to the edge of an enterprise network. Arista allows businesses to simplify their edge architecture by consolidating multiple pieces of hardware into a single solution.
The ETM service is an addition to the existing solution that upgrades an existing infrastructure and adds perimeter protection on the edge of the WAN. The integration of Zero Trust security processes with native SD-WAN allows establishing a standard process based on an OS and a policy enforcement engine that will be used throughout the network. With the help of Arista Networks, administrators are able to control end-to-end policies via one pane of glass in VeloCloud Orchestrator. Local next-gen firewalling, threat prevention, zone segmentation, Geo-IP filtering, DNS protection, and policy guidance powered by AI are among the ETM services.
“The new ETM functionality allows us to offer requested security services on top of the existing SD-WAN infrastructure managed within the same GUI. This eliminates the need to deploy a separate firewall box managed from a separate GUI, especially for small branches,” said Till Bockenheimer from T&A SYSTEME GmbH, a German MSP managing 7500+ sites in 98 countries for 10+ years within VeloCloud SD-WAN for its customers.

“The network edge must evolve to be smarter and more autonomous as our clients expand their AI-driven operations from reactive troubleshooting to predictive management,” states Edward Fox III, Chief Technology Officer at MetTel.
AI-Powered Policy Intelligence via Arista AVA®
To simplify security management and minimize human error, the Edge Threat Management platform leverages Arista AVA® (Autonomous Virtual Assist) for AI-driven policy intelligence. Through features such as ‘Policy Explainer’ and ‘Traffic Simulation’ powered by Ask AVA, complex security rule sets are converted into natural language summaries. This capability allows security teams to evaluate policy outcomes and predict traffic behavior prior to deployment—a key advantage in multi-administrator environments where configuration conflicts can introduce operational risk.
“The new zero trust integrated security with ETM, developed organically by Arista, showcases the power of the combined Arista and VeloCloud teams on the anniversary of the VeloCloud acquisition. Customers can now simplify and unify the branch, extending enterprise-grade zero trust security to the branch office WAN edge,” said John McCool, Senior Vice President at Arista Networks.
Advancing Client-to-Cloud Network Infrastructure
The integration of Edge Threat Management across VeloCloud SD-WAN platforms reinforces Arista’s strategy to provide secure, end-to-end networking infrastructure spanning from individual clients to multi-cloud environments. By combining intelligent automation with edge security, Arista enables enterprise networks to reduce operational complexity, harden branch perimeters, and prepare infrastructure for the expanding demands of AI-driven workloads.
