GitLab Inc. has released GitLab 19.4, expanding agentic automation across development workflows while adding controls for organizations to manage usage, costs and access. The update enables developers to delegate complete objectives through the command in GitLab Duo CLI, trigger automated flows when merge requests open and access GitLab through Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients using governed tools. The workflow allows agents to implement work and uses a separate model to verify progress against the stated objective, with developers able to stop, revise and restart runs under existing project permissions. GitLab Duo Agent Platform also adds three GitLab-hosted open weight models, Kimi K3, MiniMax M3 and GLM 5.3, alongside existing frontier models, giving teams more flexibility to balance quality, latency and cost across workloads.

GitLab states that the hosted models can provide up to four times more calls per GitLab Credit than many comparable frontier models. Group owners can set default models and control which models are available across groups and projects, while hosting vendors undergo third-party risk assessment. The release also maintains existing permission and attribution mechanisms, allowing agent actions to operate under established code access controls and linking credit consumption to individual user accounts. “This release takes agentic automation from something individual developers use to something an organization can scale at speed and under the controls already in place,” said Manav Khurana, chief product and marketing officer at GitLab.
