Google Planning to Lay Off Employees as Global Economy Worsens

Google LLC may be set to lay off a significant number of employees amid a worsening global economic situation and multiple quarters of negative economic growth in the U.S.

The company has reportedly stopped hiring new employees late last week and reportedly told some current employees to “shape up or shape off” if expectations weren’t met, as was revealed by the New York Post on Friday. These projections take into account the financial data Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, will release in its upcoming earnings report in October. Employees who requested anonymity told the Post that they anticipate significant layoffs.

Senior leadership is alleged to have informed staff members who work in sales at Google’s Cloud division that there will also be a “overall examination of sales productivity and productivity in general.”
