IBM has announced the launch of the IBM z17, marking a significant advancement in mainframe technology by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities directly into its core architecture. This development aims to enhance real-time data processing and analytics for enterprise applications.

The z17 is equipped with the Telum II processor, which introduces an on-chip data processing unit (DPU) designed to accelerate AI workloads. This integration enables the mainframe to handle complex AI inferencing operations more efficiently, facilitating over 250 AI use cases across various industries, including finance, healthcare, and retail.
