Thales expands CipherTrust data security platform-as-a-service offering

Thales

Thales, a leading global technology and security provider, announced the launch of CipherTrust Transparent Encryption (CTE) through the CipherTrust Data Security Platform as a Service. Designed for complex environments, CTE enables encryption in a transparent and efficient manner without requiring any changes to applications or underlying infrastructure. As Thales continues to expand its cloud service offerings, it remains committed to providing customers with flexible options to use data security services on demand to help achieve compliance goals and protect sensitive data wherever it is stored.

CTE helps customers meet compliance requirements and data protection best practices, regardless of whether data is stored in multi-cloud environments, on-premises or in containers. In addition, it provides the following capabilities:

  • Real-time data conversion is a unique and patented technology from Thales that supports zero-downtime encryption deployment, encrypting data and rotating keys without affecting applications. This allows for true transparency without modifying applications or infrastructure.
  • Ransomware Protection continuously monitors processes for abnormal I/O activity, alerting or blocking malicious activity before ransomware can infect endpoints and servers.

The launch of CTE is another important achievement of Thales following the launch of CipherTrust Cloud Key Management (CCKM) cloud service through CipherTrust Data Security Platform as a Service. The previously launched CCKM enables enterprises to centrally protect, manage and control their encryption keys in multiple public cloud and SaaS environments.

As more and more enterprises migrate applications and workloads to various cloud platforms, they face higher management complexity, security threats and data breach risks. On average, enterprises use 84 SaaS applications. In addition, according to the 2024 Thales Cloud Security Study , more than half of IT professionals believe that the complexity of managing privacy and data protection regulations in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments is much higher than in local environments.

With this new offering, Thales expands its existing SaaS-based key management services to help enterprises extend data encryption, protection and access strategies beyond on-premises solutions.

“With this new CipherTrust Data Security Platform capability, Thales is providing customers with multiple ways to deploy and use data security services to effectively meet future demands for protecting data across multiple systems and environments,” said Todd Moore, Vice President of Data Security Products at Thales. “Organizations can seamlessly update without disruption, flexibly scale with business needs, close the security expertise gap, and deploy data security more quickly and cost-effectively without the need for additional hardware and software investments.”

CipherTrust Data Security Platform as a Service enables IT security teams to easily use, deploy and manage encryption and key management while reducing cost of ownership, shortening deployment time and helping enterprises address the growing IT skills shortage.
