WordPress launches WordPress.com to streamline site editing and design

WordPress

WordPress.com has unveiled a new AI Assistant feature, now integrated directly into its platform to help site owners create, edit and manage websites using natural language commands, making advanced design and content tasks accessible without coding or separate tools. The AI Assistant, which users can opt into via the “AI tools” setting on Business or Commerce plans, appears as a sidebar within the editor and Media Library, understanding site structure to adjust layouts, rewrite or translate text, modify styles, add new sections or pages, and handle other editing needs in-place.

It also taps Google Gemini’s Nano Banana models to generate or edit images that match a site’s visual style. Through the block notes feature introduced in WordPress 6.9, collaborators can summon the assistant by typing “@ai” for suggestions, fact checks or title ideas. The Assistant works best with modern block themes and represents one of the most significant AI enhancements to the CMS experience, reducing friction for creators and keeping them “in flow” without jumping between external tools.
