Comcast Business Launches SecurityEdge Preferred Nationwide, Embedding Network-Native Cyber Defense

Comcast

Comcast Business, the nation’s largest provider of connectivity to small businesses, announced the commercial rollout and nationwide availability of SecurityEdge™ Preferred.

The solution represents the company’s most advanced, network-native cybersecurity offering developed exclusively for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs). It provides comprehensive, multi-layered threat protection at an accessible, non-enterprise price point.

The Structural Advantage of Edge-Embedded Protection

Because SecurityEdge Preferred is built natively into the core infrastructure of the Comcast Business network, it can be provisioned and activated within minutes. The architecture entirely removes the need for local endpoint hardware deployment, multi-vendor software management, or ongoing client patch maintenance.

Instead of operating as an overlay software application on top of local networks, the security architecture resides directly within the broadband link itself. This setup intercepts digital threats at the network perimeter the exact moment traffic transitions into or out of the corporate router. This structural property of network-native security stops attacks before they reach local local area networks (LANs)-an advantage that traditional overlay solutions cannot deliver.

An Escalating and Costly SMB Threat Landscape

The nationwide rollout arrives amid a sharp rise in complex cyberattack campaigns specifically targeting localized corporate operations. According to the Comcast Business 2025 Cybersecurity Threat Report-which analyzed 34.6 billion discrete security events across its network infrastructure-the digital threat profile confronting small businesses is at its most active and costly level on record.

Supporting market data highlights the severity of the problem:

Target Aggregation: Market research from Cisco indicates that 43% of all global cyberattacks are now actively directed at small business environments.

Escalating Breach Costs: The Identity Theft Resource Center’s 2024 Consumer and Business Impact Report confirmed that financial losses stemming from small business data breaches have doubled over a 24-month window, with average incident damages increasingly exceeding $500,000.

Despite these growing risks, the vast majority of SMBs operate without dedicated in-house security personnel or advanced threat-hunting tools due to high costs and complex deployments. SecurityEdge Preferred is engineered to remove these structural barriers.

“Security shouldn’t require an IT department to work,” said Christian Nascimento, Senior Vice President, Connectivity and Digital Customer Solutions, Comcast Business. “SecurityEdge Preferred is part of our broader commitment to simplifying how small businesses access and manage critical technology, bringing connectivity and cybersecurity together in an integrated experience they can depend on.”

AI-Driven Edge Inspection and Scalable Operational Telemetry

SecurityEdge Preferred constantly analyzes the flow of packets in both inbound and outbound directions. The software relies on real-time protocols that detect and block any structural abnormalities in their path into or out of the workplace’s infrastructure:

Automatic Malware Containment: Immediate containment of any malware threats, including malware execution flows, local phishing operations, and rogue botnet command-and-control operations.

Advanced Machine Learning Models: Predictive intelligence constantly updates itself based on the new trends observed from zero-day attacks and polymorphic codes.

Perimeter Filtering: The perimeter filter blocks any known malicious IP addresses and blocks inbound traffic originating from any geographical locations that pose a higher risk of cyber attack.

Application and Dashboard Protection: In-built protections against unauthorized execution of any corporation-owned software programs, along with live threat management through the dashboard of choice for business owners.

The operational impact of this defense architecture is highly visible. During field operations in May 2026, SecurityEdge Preferred blocked digital threats targeting small business networks at an average rate of more than 230 blocked events per second globally.

Frictionless Activation and Transparent Tiered Pricing

Provisioning requires no added customer-premises equipment (CPE) beyond a standard Comcast Business Internet gateway. The platform completely eliminates individual endpoint client licensing fees or long-term annual subscription contracts.

SecurityEdge Preferred is structured under a flat, transparent pricing schedule:

Sub-Gigabit Tiers: $40 per month for Comcast Business Internet accounts operating at speeds below 1 Gbps.

Gigabit+ Tiers: $60 per month for high-bandwidth Gig+ enterprise accounts.

The security solution is also accessible through Comcast Business’s recently expanded Total Solutions Advantage frameworks and its “Buy More, Save More” bundle program, allowing qualified business accounts to save up to $30 per month when pairing internet connections with supplementary corporate utilities.

“Our network is what makes this different,” Nascimento continued. “Security that’s embedded in the infrastructure – rather than layered on top of it – means we can stop threats closer to where they originate, at a scale most small businesses could never achieve on their own. That’s what we built this solution to do.”
