Rubrik has announced the Rubrik Apache Iceberg Protection, which is an enterprise data protection solution that enables protection of Apache Iceberg on Amazon Web Services (AWS). With the announcement, the cloud data security and artificial intelligence governance portfolio of Rubrik has been strengthened. With the solution, the users can recover complete and queryable Iceberg tables after a cyber attack, such as ransomware attacks or any accidental overwriting or even tampering with data by the AI agents. While the native snapshots just preserve the metadata pointers of the tables, Rubrik protects the actual data and metadata that define the tables and rewires the catalog during recovery, thus making the tables queryable using the engines like Amazon Athena, Apache Spark, and Trino.

The capability addresses a growing resilience challenge as data lakehouse environments increasingly support analytics, AI and core business operations. “Data lakes have grown beyond analytics and AI to now run the entire business, and Apache Iceberg is one of the most critical systems built on them,” said Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer, Rubrik. “While Rubrik has long-protected the underlying object storage, we now protect the lakehouse itself. That means recovering complete, queryable tables, not just raw files, with immutable backups stored directly in your own AWS account. By unifying these capabilities on a single platform, the same policies protect the lakehouse alongside the surrounding databases, pipelines, and code.”
