Siemens, Databricks, and FFT Unite to Pioneer Direct Edge-to-Cloud AI Integration for Industrial Manufacturing

Siemens

In a major step forward for industrial digital transformation, Siemens has unveiled a strategic edge-to-cloud integration developed alongside data and AI leader Databricks and automation expert FFT Produktionssysteme GmbH (FFT). The cross-industry initiative aims to bridge the notorious gap between factory floor operations and corporate artificial intelligence by establishing a direct pipeline for production data entirely eliminating the need for complex, costly IoT middleware.

By streamlining this data architecture, the collaboration allows industrial manufacturers to seamlessly convert raw shopfloor metrics into scalable, actionable insights, laying a concrete path toward physical AI and autonomous manufacturing on a global scale.

Redefining the Factory Data Pipeline

Historically, scaling AI across multiple production facilities has been bottlenecked by fragmented systems and multi-layered data integration. This new solution solves the problem by leveraging Siemens Industrial Edge to handle on-site device deployment and application management directly at the production source.

Through this unified architecture, contextualized data from shopfloors and machinery is streamed via the FFT DataBridge straight into the Databricks Platform. Once in the cloud environment, the data is used to train highly sophisticated AI models centrally. These finalized models are then deployed back to the edge, where they execute localized tasks with minimal latency. This continuous, closed-loop cycle enables rapid, data-backed decision-making, helping industrial operations cut costs, maximize productivity, and minimize downtime.

“Industrial AI only delivers value when data, context and execution come together,” said Rainer Brehm, COO Automation and CTO at Siemens Digital Industries. “With Databricks and FFT, we enable our customers to scale industrial AI across factories and plants and make AI-powered production real.”

A Secure, Scalable Foundation for Smart Manufacturing

The architecture relies on a strict division of capabilities tailored to the realities of modern heavy industry:

  • Siemens Industrial Edge & Industrial Information Hub: Acts as a secure, decentralized layer built to dismantle traditional data silos and execute intelligent, low-latency applications directly on the plant floor.
  • Databricks Platform: Serves as a cloud-agnostic, heavily governed analytics hub. It powers advanced machine learning, data science, and agentic AI without introducing hefty infrastructure overheads. This foundation allows manufacturers to scale critical use cases like predictive maintenance, supply chain tracking, energy management, and quality control.

Simplifying IT/OT Convergence

Operationalizing this advanced framework requires deeply rooted expertise in factory-floor dynamics. FFT Produktionssysteme GmbH addresses this by providing the vital data pipeline that bridges the operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) environments. The FFT DataBridge ensures that streamed data arrives in the cloud pre-contextualized and instantly viable for AI model ingestion.

“Together with our partners Databricks and Siemens, FFT DataBridge provides a simple, powerful gateway to the cloud for more than 30,000 potential customers,” said Volker Stark, COO at FFT Produktionssysteme. It is ready to use and does not require expensive and time-intensive transformation of data. By natively bridging the gap between IT and OT, we eliminate the need for complex IoT layers and significantly simplify industrial connectivity for customers of Databricks.”

With this combined ecosystem, Siemens, Databricks, and FFT provide a blueprint for a standardized, enterprise-wide data strategy giving manufacturers the agility required to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven industrial landscape.
